Sources: US closes from Cappnotes (Monday close, page updated October 26, 2026, 22:49 UTC) and TheStreet (closing bell, October 26, 2026, 4:06 p.m. EDT); the percentage moves match TradingKey (October 27, 2026), Investrade (October 26, 2026, 20:06 UTC) and the AP report on Yahoo Finance. The sources differ slightly on the Dow level and on the Russell 2000, so I show the range. The STOXX 600 and CAC 40 appear in Reuters closing coverage carried by Eurasia Business News (October 26, 2026, 22:32 UTC) and Cappnotes; the DAX and FTSE 100 levels are the same in Cappnotes and Armenpress (October 27, 2026), but the two may share one upstream feed. The Nikkei close comes from Cappnotes alone; AP’s overnight figure (+1.7% to 63,268.37) is consistent with it. These are market-data summaries, not exchange files, so the last decimal may differ from the official close.

Sources: Monday figures from Cappnotes, Investrade and TheStreet (CNBC yield data, 3:10 p.m. EDT); morning figures from AP (published about 07:10 UTC) and FinanceFeeds (October 27, 2026). The two Brent rows are not like for like: Monday’s $115.81 is the December contract and AP’s quote sits about $5 lower, which looks like a different contract month, but AP does not say. Sources also differ on gold (spot versus futures), so compare only within a row. Market-data summaries, not exchange settlements.

What moved markets on Monday

AI and chips. Tech led the rebound. According to TradingKey, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose about 2.9%, and AP reported that Nvidia gained 2.4%. Both cited Anthropic’s public filing for a Nasdaq listing, reportedly under the ticker ANT; I have not seen the filing itself, so treat that as a press report. AP also noted that the S&P 500 is now 1.8% below its record high set earlier this month. The mood was not uniformly upbeat: AI-related stocks stayed volatile over concerns that borrowing costs could hit data-centre and chip spending, and Investrade reported that Elon Musk’s comments on funding for data-centre operators weighed on that group. Meta said it plans to raise $35 billion by selling stock, with Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom reportedly willing to buy up to $5 billion of it (AP); TradingKey puts Meta’s total financing plan at about $95 billion and says the shares fell about 1.9%. Tesla rose about 5.2% after a Barclays upgrade (TradingKey; TheStreet).

Oil and the Gulf. Crude eased on Monday. Per a Yahoo Finance report, traders hoped US-Iran tensions might ease after Qatari mediators travelled to Tehran, while Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia kept losses limited. Brent’s December contract settled at $115.81, down 0.78%, and WTI at roughly $101.6 (Cappnotes; Investrade). Per FinanceFeeds, citing Iranian state media, officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan also met Iranian leaders on Monday and agreed to keep talking. These are press reports that I have not independently confirmed.

Brazil. Brazil’s Ibovespa fell 13.88% to 176,608.23, its worst day in six years, after President Lula won re-election; the exchange halted trading under its circuit breaker (Cappnotes). Investors worry about higher government spending and debt (AP). TheStreet lists US-listed Brazilian names such as XP Inc. and Nu Holdings among the biggest intraday decliners.

Europe. European shares rose with lower oil prices and relief after Moody’s affirmed France at Aa3 with a negative outlook (Cappnotes). Per Reuters closing coverage, defence stocks gained 2.6%, travel and leisure 1.9%, and energy slipped 0.2%; Portugal’s Galp fell 10.8% after merger talks with Moeve collapsed. I have not seen the company statements, so the Galp move rests on one media report.

Deals and the Treasury market. EQT agreed to buy Range Resources in an all-stock deal that creates a combined enterprise value above $50 billion (TradingKey; Cappnotes). In bonds, the 10-year yield held near 5%, while Cappnotes reported a $69 billion 2-year auction and a 2-year yield up about 3 basis points to 4.712%. The FOMC begins its meeting today, and AP says a hold is widely expected after last month’s increase.

Overnight in Asia

Asian markets mostly rose, led by chips. Per AP (about 07:10 UTC), Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 1.7% to 63,268.37, with Advantest up 9.6% and SoftBank Group up 5%. South Korea’s Kospi closed 3.1% higher at 5,638.34 after rising more than 4% intraday, with SK Hynix up 5.2% and Samsung Electronics up 4.2%; South Korean GDP grew at a 3.4% annual rate in July-September, better than expected. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.5% to 8,852.10. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.6% at 23,077.56 and the Shanghai Composite down 0.3% in late-session readings, with traders watching a closed-door Communist Party meeting. The Nikkei, Kospi and ASX figures are closes; the Hong Kong and Shanghai readings are not. US futures edged lower after earlier gains (AP; no levels given). SK Hynix reports on Wednesday and Samsung on Thursday.

Company timing: Coca-Cola investor relations, Boeing investor relations and Visa investor relations. Consensus figures vary by provider and release times can change, so check the official calendars. No release in the table was out at the time of the cut-off.

With the Fed meeting under way, the focus is on the consumer confidence reading, any further oil headlines from the Gulf, Coca-Cola and Boeing results, and AI-sector financing news after the Meta and SpaceX announcements.

The rest of the week: the Fed and big tech

The Federal Reserve meets on October 27 and 28; the decision is due on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC), and the meeting has no new Summary of Economic Projections (Federal Reserve meeting calendar). The Fed raised its target range to 3-3/4 to 4 percent on September 16, 2026 (Federal Reserve press release), and AP says a hold is widely expected this week; that is the press consensus, not a forecast by this site. The Bank of Canada also decides on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. ET (FinancialJuice). Alphabet and Microsoft report after the close on Wednesday; on Thursday the ECB decides, the first estimate of third-quarter US GDP and September PCE inflation are due at 8:30 a.m. ET, and Amazon reports; the Bank of Japan decides on Friday (AP, FinancialJuice, NordFX). Earnings dates can change, so confirm them with each company.
